RSE has been designed so that a minimum of hardware is required in order to use it. In fact all you need in order to run RSE is a headset with a combined mic- and headphone jack (such as the Apple EarPods). While this can be useful when you are familiarizing yourself with RSE, when running experiments, it is recommended that you use a better mic and more sound isolating headphones. RSE works with a wide variety of equipment. Below is a list of suggestions for equipment to use with RSE. See the manual for more information and see the page EPSI headset on this website for information on how to build your own Extra Passive Sound Isolation (EPSI) headset.

Headphones
To prevent that the test participant hears the sound of their actual utterances leaking through the headphones during manipulated trials, it is recommended that headphones with high passive sound isolation are used. Depending on the specific experimental set up and requirements, we recommend for example:
● Sennheiser HD 280 PRO (note that these might not be sound isolating enough for normal amplitude speech).
● Apple EarPods with hearing protection earmuffs with high passive sound isolation, such as 3M Peltor X5A, on top.
● EPSI headset.
